Bike fitting.
Everything about our Standard and Tailored Bike Fits at Ciclo Melbourne.
What's the difference between a Standard and Tailored Bike Fit?−
Standard Bike Fit — $275 (1 hour): We put you on the bike, watch how you move, and adjust your position accordingly — saddle height, cleat alignment, handlebar reach and more. The right starting point for most riders.
Tailored Bike Fit — $475 (1 hr 40 min): We start with your body, not the bike. A full physiotherapy assessment off the bike covering your injury history, movement patterns and physical limitations — then we bring that directly onto the bike. The result is a position built specifically around your body, not just optimised for it. Includes a written report.
Not sure which to choose? If you've got existing pain, recurring injuries, or want the most thorough result possible, go Tailored. If you want a solid professional fit and you're in good shape, Standard is great.
When should I get a bike fit?+
Any time something feels off on the bike — that's probably the most honest answer. Beyond that: when buying a new bike, when you're experiencing pain or discomfort, when your fitness or flexibility has changed significantly, or when you haven't had a fit in over two years. After any injury or surgery that affects mobility or strength, we also recommend a re-fit to accommodate physical changes.
Do you use Retül?+
No. We don't use Retül. We use our own software with our own eyes, skills and knowledge.
Can I claim a bike fit on private health insurance?+
Yes — both the Standard and Tailored Bike Fits are conducted by our
AHPRA-registered physiotherapist and are claimable on private health insurance under physiotherapy code 500. Bring your health fund card to your appointment and we'll process it on the spot via HICAPS.
Do you fit time trial bikes?+
Yes — but if you're bringing in a TT bike, please book the
Tailored Bike Fit. The additional physiotherapy assessment time is essential for a proper aero position. We fit road, gravel, MTB, e-bike, commuter and TT bikes.
Do you fit multiple bikes?+
Yes. Each bike requires its own fit — a road bike setup differs significantly from gravel, MTB or commuter positioning. We can transfer fit data between similar bikes and make appropriate adjustments. Each additional bike is treated as a separate booking. We can often complete multiple fits efficiently by building on the biomechanical assessment from your primary fit.
Does a Tailored Fit include a written report?+
Yes. The
Tailored Bike Fit includes a detailed written report covering all measurements, position settings, findings from the physiotherapy assessment, and recommendations. You can take this to any bike shop in Australia or use it when buying online.
What if I'm not happy with my bike fit?+
We want you to leave feeling better, not the same. If something doesn't feel right after your fit, contact us. Most adjustments can be resolved in a short follow-up appointment. It's normal to notice the changes initially — discomfort should decrease with each ride. If the original problem persists after two weeks of regular riding, get in touch immediately.
How long before I feel comfortable with my new position?+
Minor adjustments often feel comfortable within one or two rides. More significant position changes typically need 3–5 rides for your body to adapt. Some improvements develop over time as flexibility and muscle memory build. If discomfort is worsening rather than decreasing after two weeks, contact us — further adjustments may be needed.
Online pre-purchase fit.
Questions about our $99 online consultation — the one that happens before you buy a bike.
What is the Online Pre-Purchase Fit?−
It's a 30-minute one-on-one video consultation with our Physio & Bike Fitter — before you buy a bike. You'll complete a short form covering your riding style, body measurements, injury history and the bike you're looking at. Then we jump on a call and walk you through exactly what to look for, what size to buy, and whether the geometry suits your body and goals. Available to anyone in Australia.

How much does the Online Pre-Purchase Fit cost?+
I haven't chosen a bike yet. Can I still book?+
Absolutely. Many clients come to us with just a budget and a riding goal. We'll help you narrow down what type of bike, geometry style and size range to look for — making your search at the bike shop or online far more focused. You don't need to have a specific bike in mind to benefit from the session.
Is the pre-purchase fit different from an in-person bike fit?+
Yes — very different. The
Pre-Purchase Fit happens before you own a bike and focuses on helping you choose the right one. An in-person
Bike Fit happens after you've purchased and uses our fitting tools to precisely dial in your position on that specific bike. Many clients do both — if you have a Pre-Purchase Fit with us, ask about your follow-on discount.
Can I use the pre-purchase advice at any bike shop?+
Yes. The guidance we give you is brand-agnostic and shop-agnostic. You can take it to any bike shop in Australia or use it when buying online. It's yours to keep and use wherever you choose.
Does the pre-purchase fit work for second-hand bikes?+
Yes — and it's arguably more important for second-hand purchases. When buying used, there's usually no easy return policy, so getting the sizing and geometry right before you buy is critical. We can assess any specific bike you're considering, whether new or used.
What technology do I need for the video call?+
Just a smartphone, tablet or laptop with a camera and stable internet connection. We'll send you a simple video link before your appointment — no app downloads required.

What's included in a cycling physiotherapy session?+
Our cycling physio sessions go beyond standard physiotherapy. We start with a comprehensive movement assessment to understand how your body functions on and off the bike. This includes injury diagnosis and treatment using evidence-based techniques, a biomechanical analysis of your pedalling motion and riding position, and the development of a personalised exercise program. You'll also get a structured return-to-riding plan if needed, and performance optimisation strategies to help you ride stronger with less injury risk. Within 48 hours of your session, we'll send a written summary of findings and your plan.
What cycling injuries do you treat?+
We treat the full range of cycling-related injuries and conditions — including knee pain, lower back pain, saddle discomfort, neck and shoulder tension, numb hands, foot and ankle problems,
Achilles tendon issues, and more. We also work with cyclists returning from surgery and those involved in
cycling accidents and TAC claims.
Do you work with injured cyclists?+
Yes — working with injured cyclists is one of our core specialties. We assess both your bike position and body mechanics to determine whether pain originates from positioning, muscle imbalances, previous injuries or training errors. We coordinate with other healthcare providers when necessary and can modify our approach based on advice from your GP or specialist. Our goal is to treat the injury and address the underlying cause to prevent it happening again.
Do you offer follow-up appointments?+
Yes. Follow-up appointments are $130 and are an essential part of the process. We typically recommend a follow-up 2–4 weeks after your initial session to fine-tune your position based on real-world riding experience and address anything that's arisen.
Can you help with TAC claims for cycling accidents?+
Yes. If you've been involved in a cycling accident, you may be entitled to treatment through the TAC (Transport Accident Commission). Read our guide to
TAC claims for cyclists or contact us directly to find out where you stand.
Preparation & what to expect.
What to bring, what to wear, and what happens when you arrive.
What should I bring to my bike fit?−
Bring your bike, cycling shoes, and the kit you normally ride in — snug-fitting cycling shorts and a jersey rather than baggy clothing. If you have your health fund card, bring that too. If you've had previous physio reports or medical notes that are relevant, those are helpful. If you're experimenting with different saddles or stems, bring those along and we can assess which suits your biomechanics best.
What should I bring to a cycling physio appointment?+
Comfortable clothing you can move in. Any relevant imaging (X-rays, MRIs, scans). Your health fund card if you're claiming on the spot. And if you've got previous physio reports or surgical notes, bring those too — the more context we have, the better.
Will I need to buy new components after a fit?+
Not necessarily. Many fit issues can be resolved through position adjustments using your existing components. Where component changes are recommended — a different stem length for reach, a new saddle, or cleat repositioning — we'll always explain why and discuss costs upfront before making any changes. Component costs are separate from the fitting fee, and we'll help you prioritise based on impact and budget.
Can you help with clipless pedal and cleat setup?+
Yes. Cleat positioning is one of the most critical and most overlooked parts of bike fitting. We assess your foot mechanics, arch support needs and natural pedalling motion to determine optimal cleat placement — both fore-and-aft and rotationally. We can also recommend different pedal systems if your current setup doesn't suit your foot shape or riding style, and we'll run you through proper engagement and disengagement technique if you're new to clipless pedals.
What happens after my appointment?+
Within 48 hours you'll receive an email with a written summary — what we found, any recommendations, and your position settings documented so you can replicate your setup on any bike. Tailored Fit clients receive a more detailed report covering the physiotherapy assessment findings as well.
Where are you located and what are your hours?+
Pricing & booking.
Cancellations, rebooking, and how to get in touch.
What is your cancellation policy?−
We require 48 hours notice for cancellations to avoid charges. Appointments cancelled with adequate notice can be rescheduled without penalty. Cancellations made within 48 hours of your appointment time will incur the full fee.
How do I book an appointment?+
Do you offer group bookings or corporate services?+
Yes — we work with cycling clubs, corporate teams and organisations. Group rates are available for multiple fittings, and we can run cycling injury prevention workshops and education sessions. Get in touch via
info@evolutio.com.au to discuss.
Do you have memberships?+
Technical & medical.
Cycling disciplines, leg length discrepancies, and other specifics.
Do you fit all types of bikes?−
Yes — road, gravel, mountain bike, triathlon, commuter, e-bike and TT bikes. Each discipline has unique positional requirements and we're experienced across all of them.
TT bikes: If you're bringing in a time trial bike, please book the Tailored Bike Fit — the extra assessment time is essential for a proper aero position.
Can you help with a leg length discrepancy?+
Yes. Leg length discrepancies are more common than most cyclists realise. During assessment we determine whether the discrepancy is structural (actual bone length difference) or functional (caused by muscle imbalances or pelvic alignment). Solutions may include shims under cleats, wedges, or specific position adjustments to accommodate the difference while maintaining optimal biomechanics. Our approach ensures any accommodation improves your overall comfort and efficiency rather than masking the issue.
Can you help me choose a new bike?+
Yes — that's exactly what our
Online Pre-Purchase Fit ($99) is for. Before you buy, we assess your optimal frame size and geometry requirements based on your body measurements, flexibility, riding goals and any physical limitations. We can also work with specific bikes you're considering, comparing geometry against your needs. This is particularly valuable if you're moving between disciplines, returning after time off, or making your first serious bike purchase.
Do you need a referral to see a physio?+
No referral needed for a standard appointment — just
book online. For Medicare EPC plans you'll need a GP referral first. For TAC claims you'll need a claim number. DVA Gold Card holders can be bulk-billed directly; White Card holders need a GP referral.
Do you work with cyclists who see other healthcare providers?+
Yes. We coordinate with GPs, specialists and other practitioners when needed to ensure comprehensive care. If you've had previous treatment or have recommendations from another provider, bring any relevant documents to your appointment and we'll incorporate that into our assessment.
Is Ciclo Melbourne affiliated with Evolutio Sports Physio?+
Yes. Ciclo Melbourne is co-located with
Evolutio Sports Physio in Richmond and shares the same founding team. Both clinics are led by Alex Drew. When your needs go beyond cycling, you have access to the full Evolutio team right next door — including sports physio, exercise physiology and remedial massage.
